History Tutoring That Builds Analytical Thinkers

Experienced tutors help your child understand the past, not just memorize it, from timelines and key figures to document analysis and confident essays.

Understanding the Past, Shaping the Future

History asks a lot at once: heavy reading, lots of facts, and essays that need a clear argument. When one of those is shaky, grades and confidence slip.

Lessons are one-on-one, online or at our Newport Beach office, and follow what your child is studying in class. Each student is matched with a tutor by personality, goals and learning style.

How It Works

Step 1

Assessment

We start by finding what is getting in the way. Low history grades are often a reading, note-taking or essay-planning problem, not a memory problem.

Step 2

Tutor match

Your child is matched with a tutor by personality, goals and learning style, so lessons feel natural from the first session.

Step 3

A plan built for your child

An individual plan covers the content your class is studying and the skills behind it: reading sources, organizing essays and remembering key facts.

Step 4

Feedback and progress

Your child gets clear feedback in every session, and you get regular progress updates on what is improving.

Meet your child’s tutor before you commit.

A free first lesson is a low-pressure way to see how sessions work and how your child connects with their tutor.

The After Class Tutors Method

Tutors teach strategies, not answers. Beyond each assignment, your child learns to think critically, weigh evidence and explain their ideas clearly.

  1. Personalized feedback

Clear notes on every essay and answer.

  2. Interactive discussion

Talking through events so they make sense, not just memorizing them.

  3. Confidence building

Encouraging your child to share ideas and back them up.

  4. Structure that sticks

Simple plans for essays, DBQs and document analysis.

  5. Exam and time management

Pacing for timed essays, tests and busy weeks.

  6. Independent success

The goal is a student who can do it on their own.

Frequently asked questions

Will the tutor do the work for my child?

No. Tutors teach your child how to read sources, plan an argument and study, so they can do the work on their own.

What happens in a typical session?

The tutor reviews what your child is studying in class, then works through readings, notes or essays together, using a digital whiteboard and shared documents online.

My child struggles to remember dates and facts. Can you help?

Yes. Tutors connect facts into a story of causes and effects, which is easier to remember, and teach simple study and review habits.

How often should my child have sessions?

Once or twice a week is typical. Some students add sessions before big essays or exams.

Can we try a lesson first?

Yes. K–12 students can book a free first lesson to meet a tutor and see how sessions work.

What do we need for online sessions?

A reliable internet connection and a device with a webcam and microphone. Sessions are also available at our Newport Beach office.

Let’s take the next step, together.
