English as a Second Language, K–12

ESL Tutoring to Speak English with Confidence

Patient, experienced tutors help your child speak, read and write English with confidence, at home, with friends and in every class at school.

English for School, Friends and Beyond

Learning English while keeping up in class is a lot to ask of any child. When the language gets in the way, grades, friendships and confidence can all suffer.

Lessons are one-on-one, online or at our Newport Beach office, and move at your child’s pace. Each student is matched with a tutor by personality, goals and learning style.

How It Works

Step 1

Assessment

We start by finding where your child is today in speaking, listening, reading and writing, and what is making school hardest right now.

Step 2

Tutor match

Your child is matched with a tutor by personality, goals and learning style, so lessons feel natural from the first session.

Step 3

A plan built for your child

An individual plan builds all four skills together and uses your child’s schoolwork, so new English is put to use straight away.

Step 4

Feedback and progress

Your child gets clear feedback in every session, and you get regular progress updates on what is improving.

Meet your child’s tutor before you commit.

A free first lesson is a low-pressure way to see how sessions work and how your child connects with their tutor.

The After Class Tutors Method

Tutors build real communication, not memorized lists. Your child practices speaking, listening, reading and writing in every lesson, with English they can use in class the next day.

  1. Personalized feedback

Notes on grammar, writing and speaking after every lesson.

  2. Real conversation

Speaking in every session, not just worksheets.

  3. Confidence building

A patient, judgment-free place to practice.

  4. All four skills

Speaking, listening, reading and writing together.

  5. Real-world materials

Schoolwork, stories and news, not just textbooks.

  6. Independent success

The goal is a student who can keep up in class on their own.

Frequently asked questions

Who is ESL tutoring for?

K–12 students whose first language is not English, from newcomers just starting out to students who speak well but find academic reading and writing hard.

Does the tutor need to speak my child’s first language?

No. Lessons are taught in English, at a pace and level your child can follow. Tell us your child’s first language and we will take it into account when matching a tutor.

Can you help with schoolwork too?

Yes. Tutors often use your child’s assignments and readings in lessons, so English practice and classwork move forward together.

How often should my child have sessions?

Two sessions a week is a good start for newer English learners. Once or twice a week is typical later on.

Can we try a lesson first?

Yes. K–12 students can book a free first lesson to meet a tutor and see how sessions work.

What do we need for online sessions?

A reliable internet connection and a device with a webcam and microphone. Sessions are also available at our Newport Beach office.
